This early 20thc glass trumpet vase formed part of the William Mowat-Thomson collection. He was an iconic figure in Scottish dance and a collector of a wonderful array of art and antiques. The wrythen blue glass body terminates in a brass hand and sits on an alabaster square base. It measures 630mm high and 55mm wide at base. Condition is good with minor nibbles to the alabaster. A most unusual, elegant and useful piece.

This small late Victorian silver-mounted small glass hip flask, with a twist and hinged cap was made by Henry Matthews, Birmingham in 1892. The base has a removable cup with a gilded interior. The twist hinged cap is in good order and closes well. Of an ovoid shape and measuring 75mm high and 44mm wide it is well marked on the base, it is a delightful, tactile handbag/pocket size flask. This attractive and colourful limited edition paperweight was created by William Manson Senior who is a leading Scottish paperweight maker. He was apprenticed to Paul Ysart at Caithness in 1970 and went on to set up his own studio in 1997. This particular example of his work is signed William Manson Snr. and dated 2002 14/50 to base. This Regency period (1811-1820) tea caddy spoon with its elegant shell design bowl, carries a clear mark for London 1816. The shell decoration is echoed on the spoon handle. This antique silver and cut glass hip flask is a substantial piece. The engraving is particularly decorative and the cup gilding intact. Condition is very good overall with the cap turn and lift opening works well and is held securely. The cap cork is also present. It is well hallmarked for London 1911. This small Victorian silver heart shaped box is set with a 1901 Farthing. It has a gadrooned band to the hinged lid and a gilded interior. The maker is Saunders and Shepherd, Birmingham. Condition is good with a minor ding to the left hand edge as you will see in the images. It measures 50mm in length and 25mm high. The hinge is sound and it closes well. A lovely example of a table/ring/pill box with an interesting design. | |

This Arts and Crafts silver matchbox cover carries a 1903 hallmark. It is embossed in the Art Nouveau style with a maiden’s head and foliate tendrils. Naturally it is the matchbox size of the period measuring 45mm long and 30mm wide. Condition is good. Both striking sides have replacement strikers and, for illustration purposes, the matches are cut down Swan Vestas So it is an operational as well as charming item. | |
